Designed by a Czech firm, this is just at the concept stage, but it could very well represent how this mode of transportation could evolve in the future. Even though an improvement in public transport will mean a greater and easier access to public transport for everyone, there are always some occasions that you need some kind of door to door transportation system, so taxis will always be around. Eventually, with the proper equipment and technology, vehicles will be able to go to the proper direction on their own which would make this concept more of a reality. This mode of transport could be very eco-friendly as well, both on the construction of the vehicle as well as usage as it could easily be fitted with an electrical engine and go recharge itself when it's low on power.

Wired just published an article about a new way to recharge electric cars. We know that electric cars are the way of the future but they still have some major flaws that need to be improved. One of those challenge is the length of time required to recharge the battery at the "gas station". Even though they now have a way to recharge the battery in as little as 15 minutes, this is still too long for normal use if you have more driving to do. Better Place came up with the idea of switching the battery completely instead of trying to recharge it. This way, they can keep fully charged batteries on the side and the driver can come in and get his battery changed in just a few minutes. Many challenges are still associated with this idea, but this is a step in the right direction for electric cars.

Why not do both. A company in Massachusetts developed a flying car with retractable wings (hence the "car" title) so it can use standard roads without any problems. Once you're ready to fly, just bring down the wings, and you're ready to fly! The interesting thing will be to see how legislation is going to deal with this new type of transport, which we are bound to see more and more of in the future.

At the end of 2008, Finnair unveiled a website dedicated to the future of flying. Named Departure 2093, the website shows some of the visions they came up with as to how we would fly at the end of the 21st century.
