As part of our 1 year anniversary, we just published a new article that is certain to shake your beliefs. Here's the abstract:

We are now entering a new era of profound change, one at an exponential growth rate called the Exponential Revolution. This revolution will create unprecedented changes, technological breakthroughs and discoveries in many facets of science that will change our personal lives even more than any other previous technological advancement. Over the next 50 years, the medical and healthcare sectors will see previously unimaginable, unthinkable and unbelievable scientific breakthroughs that will yield truly amazing discoveries.

The exponential increase in computing performance and miniaturization efforts, often related to nanotechnology, will be the foundation of many fundamental research discoveries during this upcoming Exponential Revolution. We foresee in the next 50 years, based on this solid foundation described above, rapid changes in key research development areas and applications related to Genomics (DNA Research), Neuroscience (Brain Research), Biotechnology (Stem Cells Research), Bionic, Robotics and Space discoveries.

The TIME magazine is running a poll in which you can vote for the best inventions of 2009. Out of the 50 inventions listed, some are quite interesting (while some definitely don't deserve to be on that list). One that caught our attention is titled "school of one" which seems as an attempt to revolutionize the school system to better teach students. Is it hard to realize for many, but the students on school benches in high school are the first of the Cyber Generation to be there. Some changes that might not have been as welcome by the Generation Y kids have a potential here of being widely accepted by this new generation.

Esquire magazine - Augmented Reality

I hope you've had a chance to read our article about Augmented Reality, if not, click here first and then come back after to read this news! Esquire published their last magazine with tons of Augmented Reality features integrated in the magazine. You have markers all over the magazine that pop up a different scene on the screen whenever you put it in front of your computer. You can also have some type of interaction with what happens by moving the magazine in different ways. This is a "cool" use of AR and will definitely make the subject more known toward the masses.. But at the same time, it just reinforces the point that there is little value coming from AR in this type of setting. Yes, it makes the  magazine come to life, but nothing that could not be replaced by simple YouTube videos.. Once the novelty value goes away, there will sadly be little benefits left for Esquire, except maybe a small boost in sale for the current issue.

An interesting podcast was published on CBC Radio a couple of months back. The podcast, which runs for about 20 minutes, is an interview with Dr. Ray Kurzweil and he gives his view of where the advances in medecine and technology could lead to potentially immortality for humans (or any other living being even if it is not discussed). To check it out, you need to scroll down on the page as the Podcast was posted on 13/10 or simply do a search on the page for : "immortality".

New article: Use of technology in Asia

We've just posted yet another article, this one relates some of the different uses of technology I've encountered while I was living in Asia for a few months. Here's an excerpt of the whole article:

Another feature of this tactile screen is to monitor the car. Indeed, I’ve been in a few cabs where the driver decided to go over the speed limit and since the car is equipped with a GPS, it knows on which road the cab is and the speed limit it should be respecting. So once the cab driver goes over the limit, he will get a reminder on his screen asking him to slow down. The warning is also dependent on how fast the cab goes (the faster it goes, the stronger the suggestion to slow down is). This didn’t seem to stop the cab drivers from speeding, but they could eventually get a warning added to their profile if the company wants to ensure safety and good driving conduct by all of their drivers.
